Yuli grinned and followed him inside, getting the door if the vampire lets him and tells the host his name, who leads them to a booth.

He let Yuli get the door, then sat down at the table they were led to. Before picking up a menu, he took a moment to just look around the restaurant. They really hadn’t been out much lately, especially to anywhere this nice.

“So how was work?”

Alek shrugged, focusing his attention back on Yuli. “Pretty normal. I mean, you know, you’re there every day too, so it’s not like I can update you on what’s going on,” he teased, smiling. “Other than that, River’s been hitting on me less than normal. That plus this makes me wonder what’s going on there. You threaten to quit or something?”

“I occasionally remind him who really runs his money,” he says with a shrug and grin.

“Speaking of River, do I need to remind him of the same?” If anything, Lauren seemed to have more interest in Yuli than River did, but still.

“If you want, I’ve sort of been doing it for fun..”

Can I just say how cool it was that both of these superheroines’ personalities and powers were explored in this episode? And how well it was done?

Starfire was not shamed for being emotional. Her powers come from her emotions.

Raven was not shamed for suppressing her emotions. Her power requires amazing control.

They both. Work. They are both different kinds of strength, and they are both heroic and powerful and good. And they each learned from the other, and helped each other out by seeing from each others’ perspective, and finding the value in their differing approaches! Wow!

Fuck yes, this is how you write super-ladies, okay. There’s more than one way to be a “strong female character.” There’s all different kinds of strength. Why don’t more people GET this?

Fucking christ, do you know what this would have done? What this would have meant to SO MANY people?? The truth of this is devastating. And to think it almost found it’s way into a DISNEY film??

The inclusion of this scene alone would have made it the greatest animated feature the company ever produced. Easily. And if you think that’s hyperbolic clearly you don’t understand.

No, really, if anyone knows why this was cut PLEASE let me know.

It was clearly something the crew was very reluctant to get rid of if it made it all the way to rough-clean (and in a few scenes clean!), fully inbetweened animation. That is like, thousands and thousands of dollars and weeks (months?!) of labour. Maybe a reluctant producer decided they would alienate their white middle-class American audiences by making them feel “too guilty” and pressed them to drop it? It’s unfortunate, it’s one of the most honest accounts of racism in a Disney movie (which is why it’s believable that someone got uncomfortable and made a case to get it chopped)

Designing entertainment by committee for maximum marketability is probably the most heartbreaking process in Hollywood.

I’ve been seeing this around my dash and think it deserves some more recognition!
